200 RYT Kundalini Yoga
My Journey with Yoga began in 1998 when I asked a friend what her class was all about and she handed me a sheet that said “We begin each Kundalini Yoga class by chanting the mantra Ong namo/ guru dev namo” (I bow to creation/ I bow to the divine wisdom). That brought me “in” before I had even attended a class! When I did go later that week, I found my tribe–people who shared the sense that there is more to this world than meets the eye. Yoga, chanting and mantra came into my life. My teacher had been instructed by Yogi Bhajan to start teaching in 1971, and he brought his experience as a professional, householder, artist, counselor, and healer to every class. He was grounded, sincere, very real and a true inspiration to me.
I had a burning desire to become a Kundalini Yoga teacher, which was finally fulfilled in 2018.
One of my favorite Yogi Bhajan quotes is “Experience and Believe.” All Yoga is about realizing we are spiritual beings having a human experience, but no one other than ourselves can tell us what that is!
I teach Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, who was a Master of Hatha Yoga at age 7 and of Kundalini Yoga at age 16! He came to the West to teach openly what had only been taught in secret for ages. Each class is open to all who wish to come. No experience is required!
In every class, we chant the above mantra to “tune in,” do some breathing and a series of Yogic exercises the way “Yogi-Ji” taught them. This is followed by relaxation and a meditation. I usually include playing the gong or Tibetan Singing Bowls as part of class. The experience can be a relaxing, invigorating, challenging and potentially life changing experience of your “self” on your own terms and by your own effort. It is also lighthearted and fun!
It is a most sincere privilege to be part of this sacred practice! Sat Nam!
