Yoga Nidra is a modality that isn’t hatha (movement) yoga, nor is it meditation. 

Yoga meaning “to yoke, to unite to Spirit” and Nidra meaning “sleep.” 

It is an intentional, yet spontaneous practice which systematically soothes the body by balancing the nervous system, bringing the practitioner into a state between deep sleep and being fully awake: a hypnagogic state. In yoga, this is known as the Turiya, superconscious state of Pure Awareness. Half an hour of Yoga Nidra has been found to be the equivalent of an hour worth of deep sleep. 

Kevilyn O’Connor, who instructed me in this practice, describes it as “relieving us of what does not serve us and planting seeds for and reinforcing what does serve us.” 

We begin this workshop with an opening circle to welcome ourselves and each other into the sacred space. I’ll spend a little time talking about the practice, it’s scientific benefits, and answering any questions. We’ll then spend 15-20 minutes in grounding and embodiment practices, before landing into a comfortable, fully supported posture. This is where we will get super cozy and spend the duration of our practice (40-50 minutes). 

Nidra involves a bit of guided relaxation, moving awareness around the physical body (like a mental massage), some effortless focus on the breath as well as guided imagery and quiet relaxation. You might be awake for all of it, or drift off halfway through!

We take our time emerging from our nap, stretching and writing any reflection. We then conclude with a bit of discussion. 

You might bring a cozy blanket, and a journal, or simply Yourself.

Held in Bloomfield. March 10th is full. April 10th has openings……OR…… Come to April 28th or our special Yin/Restore April 14th! 

This full 2+Hour session is designed to help bring clarity, deep rest, the feeling of being pampered, and a deep sense of connection.

Beautiful surroundings – candlelight, music, aromatherapy.

All are welcome. Limited to just a few bodies! Fills quick. This session is an authentic class.

~ Bring your own favorite blanky if you like! But no mat needed.

Here’s the cure: Melt into complete relaxation in these delightful evening sessions. Restorative Yoga’s the opposite of exercise … it’s the total release of those tension-holding muscles that cause pain and discomfort. I’ll help you sink into postures that gently dissolve the stress and open the path to a peace-filled body. 

Register by 8 p.m. the day before for $35. Long sleeves, pants and socks required;  no mat is needed. This class is a deeply calming experience. If you can, arrange for a drop off and pick up of your deeply relaxed spirit and body.
